《专利法》（Patentgesetz）中增加了新的第26a条，扩大了DPMA的法定职能：向德国的中小企业、初创企业以及公众宣传知识产权保护机制，并在其职权范围内与其他国家的知识产权局、欧洲和国际机构进行有效合作。
DPMA将进一步提高在专利审查程序中的效率，以提高专利保护的吸引力，进而提升德国整体经济的创新能力。DPMA将根据情况适度增加专利费，主要目的是再次加强创新政策的指导作用，同时兼顾DPMA不断扩大的服务范围。
此次专利费调整将于2022年7月1日生效。在费用调整方面，还将增加专利审查人员，以便大大缩减专利审查的时间。
